Martyrdom and Persecution in the Early Church
The early days of the Christian religion were filled with violence, bloodshed, and tragic acts of horrible acts of atrocities. While the word martyr may translate as “witness," early Christians came to know the word by a different definition: one who has willingly accepted death in order to protect their faith. In the book Martyrdom and Persecution in the Early Church, author William HC Frend examines what life was like for the first Christians, thousands of years ago. Why did thousands of Christians eagerly accept martyrdom at the hands of the Roman Empire? The answer to this question, and to many others, can be found within the pages of Martyrdom and Persecution in the Early Church!
